Anthony LaPaglia and Me

You wouldn't think I'd have much in common with Anthony LaPaglia.

He is an actor, with an Italian name from Australia.  I'm not an actress, with a very English name, from England.

Last night, I was watching his episode of Inside the Actor's Studio.  A show I really like, just because charting the career of people doing something much more interesting than I do day in and day out is pretty fascinating, if slightly torturous.

There is a questionnaire at the end of each show, created by someone called Bernard Pivot (he was french...Pivot as in pe-vo, not table).  It asks the following questions:

  1. What is your favorite word?
  2. What is your least favorite word?
  3. What turns you on (creatively, spiritually or emotionally)?
  4. What turns you off (creatively, spiritually or emotionally)?
  5. What sound or noise do you love?
  6. What sound or noise do you hate?
  7. What is your favorite curse word?
  8. What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
  9. What profession would you not like to do?
  10. If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?

They're reasonably interesting questions.  I will answer them all on here at some point.   The actors/actresses have all sorts of interesting answers.

The what turns you on/off question is the one I struggle the most with in my head.  I'm never really sure.  I became sure last night, upon hearing Anthony LaPaglia's answer to question 4:

People who don't give 100%.

It was a lightbulb moment.  That 's totally my answer to that question.  I spend a good deal of my life frustrated by people around me and THAT is why.  They don't give it their all.

I figure that if you're doing something, DO IT. Don't tiptoe around it.  Have some pride in what you do, whether its a personal thing, or a professional thing.  Do it.  If you don't care about something, move along.  Don't hinder the people around you with it.  Their life, plus yours, is way too short for that shit.

That is all.

A Clean Slate...Again

Almost exactly 4 years ago, I deleted my entire blog archive and started again.

Looking through it all, I had been so negative and had used the blog as a place to rant about a number of awful ex-boyfriends, bad times at work, slights by friends etc.

The theory behind deleting the archive was to ditch all the negativity and start again.  Afresh.

You can guess what I did though can't you?  Yep.  Negativity-o-rama.  More horrible ex-boyfriends (more horrible than the originals), more work stresses, more friend ups and downs.

So, I'm trying it again.  I'm saving my archives for myself.  Partly because I'd like to remove that element of my life from the web and partly because Typepad and Blogger won't play nice and import my history.  It's not vital that it's here.  The past is done.

Now to the present...
